FAQ: What is the difference between addons, accessories, spare parts and components?

Addons

Products that preferably should be purchased together with the ‘main product.’ In some cases, this is even mandatory, since the add-on cannot be bought separately, or the main product cannot be purchased without the addon. Addons should always be bought in defined quantities and within the framework of addon categories. By defined quantities, we mean that for each addon you should specify the number of units of that addon that must be purchased if the addon is selected.

For addons, the relationships should be enriched with metadata by dividing the relationships into different addon categories. Metadata can include name, description, image, video, and document.

Accessories

Products that are recommended together with the main product.

Spare parts

Products classified as components of main products. Spare parts are never relevant to purchase in the same order as the main product. Instead, customers use this relationship to find parts for a product they already own – and the spare part is only relevant to buy if the customer already owns the main product. Spare parts are always separate products that can be purchased individually.

Components

Products that are part of a package – where the package is the main product. Components may be relevant to purchase without owning the main product. They may also be relevant to purchase in the same order as the main product.
